Title: Tutorial Island
Post by: NiteStar on July 31, 2010, 11:38:21 pm
Players should be allowed to leave tutorial island once they've reached level 3 or so, but if they still haven't completed all of the quests, then they should be issued a stern warning before being allowed to leave, and the warning should appear every time that they enter/leave until all quests are completed.

Also, I couldn't find the information on TI but ...

It would be helpful to let players know the meaning of the differently-coloured text:

White - local chat, only other players on your screen can see what you're writing
Orange - /shout, a global chat where all players in-game can read what you're writing
Blue - player guild chat, only players who are in your player guild can read what you're writing
Cyan - /tells, private chat. Only the person you're /telling or /replying to can read what you're writing

nice double post, btw ;)

first: leaving TI: I don't think this is a good idea. i guess u think of players who chose a second or third etc. character. well, bad luck, as it is most important IMO for new players to get TI done so they know how the game works

second: yes, i suggested something like that in another game (guess which). I suggested and do it here again to use a similar system as Dofus does

Dofus?

I know that the new chat system, which will be revealed when DWC is finished, my obviate the need for this but I think it's still important at this point in the game. Even with the new DWC, it could be beneficial to have this info in the game. :)

I had to explain this chat-colours thing a to a newbie in-game yesterday. Took them a bit to figure it all out but eventually they got the hang of it. ;)

Sounds like the "guess which" game that Nobbit was talking about.

As for the colours, it is unnecessary to explain because all of them have textual explanation.

There's no textual explanation between /shout and /say, Kiana.

I had to spend some time trying to explain this to a newbie. That's why I created this post .... and even though /tell and /guild and /gsay may have a textual explanation, it doesn't really explain what that difference is to someone who's never played a MMORPG or similar type game before.

Have a portal for players to enter the apartment area.

I'm a bit torn on whether or not to have the NPC apartment shop keeper there or not selling apartments but here's the reasoning as to why it would be useful to have access to one's apartment on TI:

Higher-level players would be more inclined to help out newbies with equipment and other items if they were able to enter into their apartment from TI, instead of having to go to CH or Bryn to go to their apartment, and then upon leaving their apartment, return to the TI.

I know that in some games, newbies get a bit frustrated when players say they're going to help and then run off the map. If the newbie sees the player enter a portal, then they might feel more at ease waiting by the portal for them to return ...

Just a thought ....

As for other suggestions, imho they're only relevant after the island has been created.
It will not look like the current tutorial and tutorial island, the new islands will replace them.
One island will be "Tutorial Island" with an instanced cave with the same function as the current tutorial, however largely expanded. The other island will be for level 1-10. It will be completely different from the current tutorial island with original areas.
