Title: Floozy's Guide to Atrinik
Post by: NiteStar on February 21, 2011, 08:40:09 am
Just thought that it should be mentioned here as well there's this neat, nifty new Player's Guide to Atrinik, written by none other than our very own Floozy:

https://www.atrinik.org/page/guide_floozy

EDIT: There's an extraneous "le" in the "Jewelry" section of Floozy's Guide....

I haven't got time to write a U.S. version as well, so you'll have to put up with my "proper" !!!!! English spelling :):):):) Its spelt "jewellery" in the U.K.

I'll have to smack Google around for that -- I thought such might be the case but Google had advised me it was not. Bad, bad Google!

Hi all

Due to popular demand (aka being gang-nagged!!!!!) I have added a section about magic which lists the spells and magic devices.

It is just a "glorified" version of what I call the "official" spell list https://www.atrinik.org/page/spells - slightly updated and with a few additional snippets of information such as how to work out how much mana or grace a spell would "cost".

Hope this helps

Love Floozy

<edit> P.S. I have added the colours of each potion, having been told it may be useful.  Hopefully this will display on everyone's browser. </edit>

Hi all

I wanted to know how the colour of each mob was calculated, e.g. yellow for similar level to you, so I cheated and looked at the code!

I doubt even the worst "stickler" could call it a spoiler, so I have added this information to the guide in a page called Levels, adding the number of experience points required to reach that level for your information.

A lot of the pages have additional items listed and there was one correction - I mis-spelt naginata (tch tch).

IIRC (at least in Daimonin) the colour of a mob is determined by the difference in its level vs the player's level.

Grey (more than 5 levels below player),
Green (4-5 levels below player),
Blue (1-3 levels below player),
Yellow (same as player's level),
Orange (1-2 levels above player),
Red (3-5 levels above player),
Purple (5+ levels above player).

Don't quote me on the # of levels above/below a player the mob has to be for the colour; I don't remember the specifics but it's something along these lines. :)

That may be true for lower levels...

Floozy's guide is correct - as the level increases, the range widens. It has always been that way.

One thing that may not be exactly correct is where I have added my estimate for the minimum level of books which will give any experience points (compared to your current Me level).

I don't think that is taken from the "colour" table, as for example up to level 75 I could read up to 5 levels above my Me, and over level 75 it was 15 - and that certainly isn't how "purple" is calculated.  My estimate of the lowest level book is 75% of your Me level (rounded up) which is what I list.

Of course the calculations may have been changed just when I reached level 75, so my guess is inaccurate!  That's the problem with writing a guide in a "fluid" environment!  Maybe I should just cheat and look at the code again, but I prefer to be "honest" where I can :)

IIRC maximum level you can read is Me level + 15, but book with level below "gray" will not give any experience. One nice suggestion was to color the book's level in examine the appropriate color. That would make it easier to see if that book will give you any experience at all. Someone should log that one in the Bugzilla, or it will get forgotten about again...

Hi all

I was busy writing extra bits for the Guide when I noticed boys arguing so I rushed out a new "Stats" page which lists virtually everything I can think of about stats.

Now I'll get back to trying to work out how much damage a spell does!!

Okay!  I have done my best to work out how much damage a spell would do, and the Spells page is now up-to-date.

That's enough for the moment!!!!

Hi fans :) (and others!)

I have been busy adding stuff to the guide - here is the latest.

The Levels page now contains the maximum number of hit points, mana points, and grace points you can have at a level excluding any boni, e.g. additions from having high stats.  Now if you are clever enough you can work out exactly how many points you should have in each, and thereby decide whether a PoI will say you are perfect :)

Also added to Levels is what I calculate as the maximum regeneration rates before any adjustments - they appears to be at least approximately correct!

Stats now also includes information about regeneration rates - this is because stats can increase your points and points mean prizes, I mean additions to the regeneration rates (shut up Brucey).

I hope I have got this more-or-less correct!  The algorithm for regeneration is cunningly hidden deep within do_some_living and there are lots of "on-the-fly" calculations!

Today's update

Following a suggestion from Cleo, I have added a Notes page where I give the simplified formulae for regeneration rates. I will add any other "geek" stuff there!  Don't worry - I haven't forgotten the health warning :)

There are changes on some other pages, mostly just wording and/or presentation.

TODO: Must write a batch script to update the whole guide - its getting tedious regularly logging in then individually uploading any pages which have changed!!!

By the way - should I also upload the master document (spreadsheet) containing the guide to somewhere? That would mean someone could easily continue work on it if anything happened to me - all you have to do is update the relevant sheet and press <ctrl>z.

Yay, nice work. :D

I think you could upload the spreadsheet to the same place you upload the actual HTML files. :)

Latest update

The Levels page now has extra information about experience:

First it tells you the approximate level of mob which provides the maximum amount of experience (capped at 2 1/2 % of the experience points between levels above 7).

Then it lists for each colour except grey and purple the approximate number of "typical" mobs of each colour you can kill at each level.

I hope the figures are about right!!!! The maths behind it is a bit complicated!

Love Floozy

P.S. the page works fine as a stand-alone, but gets "squidged" when viewed inside the Atrinik frame - I may have to split the table into two sections, especially if I add more information.

<edit> "Squidging" solved for the moment by narrowing some other columns </edit>

There's more!

On a suggestion from our very own Ddh that it would be good to explain how AC and WC affect your chance to hit, I have started a Combat page.  At the moment it concentrates mostly on Physical combat so I will probably add to it at a later stage.

Also I have altered the index (Intro) page so that a newcomer will hopefully get enough advice to start with.

Update

I have added lots of other stuff to the Combat page - its not yet complete but all the calculations etc. are there now.  Other pages have also been slightly enhanced where relevant to combat.

Reading through it, I am not sure whether its all complete gobblygook or may be useful to at least a few people.  I have tried not to be too mathematical, but as a result may have dumbed-down too much so that half the population gets bored but not enough so the other half understands it! Ho Hum.

I am open to ideas as to what best to concentrate on next (until my new computer arrives - I found out I didn't press the "express" button when ordering, so will have to wait!).

Why's that? Aren't they simple? ;)

Nice job on the combat page Floozy :D

Where libraries are located (in what towns, etc) and approximately what levels they are....would be most helpful!

Post by: Floozy on March 14, 2011, 09:32:09 pm
You tell me where all the libraries are and I'll add that to the guide if that's a requirement - I haven't kept a note of where all readable books may be and Cleo changes that kind of thing too regularly for me to keep up.

The guide is mainly about my experiences - I repeat for the umpteenth time that its not supposed to be a complete list or a walkthrough.

Thank you for the compliment again Kiana - what are you after?? Heehee!

Okay - I've relented.

There is a library page now.  I will not keep it up to date unless someone tells me about another library or I stumble into one!

P.S. new computer is almost ready to go - just need to install Atrinik now!!!!

Added 3 extra items: Crown of the Magi; Amulet of Free Action; and waybread of Aelingas (no - not Air Lingus - don't be silly).

I hear that friend Babs found a very powerful mana crystal - but I haven't got a page which lists those so you will have to ask her about it :)

Happy Thursday

Added Ring of Strife. Many thanks Vinhi.

By the way, a lot of times when I update a page the new version doesn't appear in my browser, and F5 doesn't refresh that page but instead re-loads the Intro page (with the page index).  I find the most convenient way using IE is to right-click the link and open the document in a new tab or window, then F5 and voila :)

Love Foozy (spelt that way according to Idi!!!!)

Happy Saturday now!

After the Server Maintenance team finished their repair work yesterday, I logged on to find that almost all of my food had morphed!!!!!!  Smelly snozzcumbers huh?  They pro'lly come from the Bog of Eternal Stench.

I have updated the Food page in the guide - crossing fingers that all the changes are correct!

Enjoy :)

Its almost a shame to disturb the peace during this Easter weekend :) Still waiting for Mr Tokar to create us an egg hunt Heehee.

Updated Rings to include RoGS at last - many gratz to Babs for conquering the puffer - a crowning glory :)

Added a Crown of Rulership which has a +2 bonus to charisma.  Combined with all the other "charming" gear means this my charisma can reach a heady 25 - that means obtaining 22.3% of examine value when selling to shops WOWEE :)  Not forgetting the additional mind-boggling 2.3% discount when buying, of course.

Tuesday's greetings

With permission from Cleo that I can "steal his thunder", I have updated the Stats page to include the brand new experience bonus when reading books if you have a high Wisdom, and updated the shop discount and "pawn price" according to your charisma.

The level at which a book provides experience has also been amended, as I now realise that it is dependant on your Wisdom.

By the way, the new charisma bonuses in shops will still not make anyone rich, even though the discount has at least doubled in most cases.   With very high charisma you can still only get a maximum 30% of "examine  value" - an improvement (it was 25%) which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick but still borders on the "scrooge" level imho!!!!!!

I understand that Cleo will tell us all about his recent hard work when the last few loose ends have been tied :):)

Floozy person,

You're missing:

Sling of Accuracy
Sling +1 of Accuracy
Heavy Sling +1
Small Sling +1

I would imagine that Small Sling +1 of Accuracy and Heavy Sling +1 of Accuracy also exist but haven't come across them yet ...

Hi SkaarjWarrior,
The latest major update, Atrinik 4.0, was released March 2016.
There have been no updates since November 2016.
