Currently, the script to create the map maker package adds both the GNU/Linux and the Windows files. This adds a few unused and unnecessary megabytes to the download. Could this be changed in order to create a separate package for each of the OS? If someone uses the same package, in the same physical directory, on more than one OS they will most likely be able to just checkout the main branch on Launchpad.

I think it is easier for new map makers if they don't have to choose a version of the map maker they need. It also makes it easier for us to maintain.

The bundled editor is multi-platform; why not the package itself, as well?

Because the editor is in Java, doh :mrgreen:

As for the user-friendliness, the site could automatically provide the right one based on the OS. With a link to the other one if needed.

But why split it in the first place, apart from saving 5 MB the user doesn't need? It's just more unnecessary work for developers, not to mention nearly doubling the space used by keeping both nearly identical packages available for download...
