Crossfire had a bunch of body part items such as brain, liver, heart, etc.  We could have a butchery skill that loots a mob corpse for these kinds of food items to either be sold or consumed.  Success is determined randomly based on skill level and more delicate organs require higher skill.  Probably the more choice items could serve as valuable trade items when sold to shops or something.

Nice idea.

I think it could quite easily use the treasure list system, with each race getting assigned a separate treasure list (so we don't have things like looting an undead's corpse for hearts, for example). There should also be a (random?) limit on the number of organs a corpse carries; maybe after 1-3 successful extractions you can no longer get organs from it.

We'll probably need several undead lists since skeletons aren't the same as zombies and we probably would want Vampire hearts for alchemy.  We might want a special sub-skill for extracting ectoplasm from ghosts, too.

Race lists would usually be the same for every member of a race, though...

Hmm, true...

So probably would need new object attribute for monsters that defines the list for the skill and is copied to the corpse. That seems the simplest way to me (perhaps using the object key values system).

We'll have to start creating recipes for basil-roasted fingers, pan-seared vampire hearts & artichokes, and other such delicacies ....
