Well here are two thoughts I had about necroposting:
1) When a new user joins the forums, most likely they'll read through many messages and even if the message was posted months ago, they may wish to respond to it as it's new to
them
.
2) If you don't wish to encourage this behaviour, then why not auto-lock posts that are older than, say, 30 or 60 days?

Necroposting is not really an issue in my opinion. It's only an issue when someone posts something like "cool" or "i agree" post to a decision topic that's months/years old and has long been fixed/implemented/etc.
Auto-locking would be too drastic and undesirable for a huge number of topics.
I recall there's a feature which makes a warning message pop up when posting to a very old topic: I think it's currently set to 180 days or so. Perhaps this could be lowered somewhat.

Well I came across like 3 messages out of 10 I'd read where either you or Kiana had said something about necroposting ....
Yes, maybe lowering the threshhold to 60 or 90 days for that pop-up warning would be a good idea.
I agree that auto-locking posts would be a drastic measure; it just seemed though that there was a bit of flack given to newbies when they necropost, and that might scare some folks away, y'know?

There is the odd case when it's OK to necropost, such as when new useful information related to the topic is posted. I think in that case it's better to reuse an existing thread than to post a new one when they have the same topic.

I agree with Lippy on that. I think the warning message is just fine as it is.
If you haven't noticed. I've locked some of the 'closed' topics. Mainly in the Support forum.

I've really only read the more recent posts so haven't quite noticed that yet. Perhaps I should read some older posts to see what's been going on with the game ...
