Atrinik Client 2.0 has been released!

Merry Christmas to all. We have a present for all of you; new version of the Atrinik client! This release brings many new features and improvements, for a list, see below.

To upgrade on Windows, you will need to download the new client installer here (verify), uninstall the old client and install the new one. To upgrade on Ubuntu, type "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" or use the Update Manager.

In both cases your key bindings, settings, etc will be preserved so you can get back to playing as soon as possible (but widget positions will not be, as too many of them changed).

List of changes:
  • Completely reworked welcome/login/character creation screens - the client loads almost immediately after starting, no "press a key" business anymore
  • Game news to the right of the servers list in the welcome screen. You can double-click (or switch between the servers list and the game news using tab) the entries in the game news to read more about each.
  • Spell list now shows all available spells in the game, with the ones you don't know grayed out
  • New music - already being used in some maps, support for MIDI
  • New default key bindings: /left as [, /right as ], /push as k, /region_map as r
  • Client markup - HTML-like markup to allow various text/image effects
  • Text windows have more customizable font, and can now be resized to the left
  • X-ray vision no longer grays out the map
  • Various map effects: zooming on per-object basis, alpha, adjusting of z/align of objects on map, etc (heavily used in Morliana)
  • Map stacking - unfinished example in Asteria Castle, and a few finished examples elsewhere in the world (Inn In The Mountains)
  • New mouse movement: click once on a square on the map (which is highlighted) to make your character move there over time using smart movement calculation to avoid impassable squares
  • Mouse gestures: hold right+left buttons or middle button to keep firing in the direction your mouse cursor is on the map, ctrl+left click to fire once, alt+left click to start running, right-click to target enemies/friends
  • Client maps: as mentioned above, default shortcut is r, but you can also use /region_map to open the map of the region you're on. This map will show you the whole region (currently: any island you're on), the towns, and so on. You can use mouse wheel or page up/down to zoom the map in/out, and you can drag the map with the mouse; wherever you click will become the center. By default the map is opened and centered on your character, which is marked with a yellow bubble. You can also move around the map using arrow keys (hold shift to go faster). Many buildings/areas on the map have a tooltip which appears to the right of the client map if you hover over the tooltip's area on the map, which has details about the building.
  • First stage of widgets refactoring: moving widgets was changed from right-click to start dragging from ctrl+right click, or right-click, click on "Move Widget" in the menu that pops up and keep holding to drag the widget.
  • Inventory filters: this is a feature to help in combat and possibly in apartments sorting. You can set up inventory filtering based on objects by right-clicking the inventory widget, going to "Inventory Filters >", and selecting the filters you want applied. If you check "Locked", you will only see locked items in your inventory. You can click "All" at any time to reset the filter and show all items. There are keyboard shortcuts you can use to trigger some of the filters: Shift + 1 (not on numpad) to clear inventory filters and show all items, Shift + 2 to see only applied items, Shift + 3 to see locked items, Shift + 4 to see unidentified items.
  • New updates system: servers can update the client with new music, updated client-side graphics, sound effects, etc, without any user interaction (just connecting to the server that has the updates).
  • Full protection name is shown in a tooltip if you hover over the protection acronym in the client.
  • Ignore command improvements (prevent double entries, prevent client freezing in some cases)
  • Book GUI redesign
  • Various other improvements, new features and speedups

Have fun playing and Merry Christmas once more.  :)

Is the uninstallation of the old version necessary or can one keep the old version on their system, as well (in other words, will keeping the old version of the client on one's computer interfere with the operation of the new)?

Removing any previous clients is optional. Version 1.1.1 is now deprecated. It is recommended to use the latest release (2.0) for the best experience but the previous version still works because of Atrinik's backward compatibility.

... Are you sure about that, Nitestar? This is what the latest version (4.0) of the client looks like on the main server:

@ NiteStar: That was a different screenshot you're talking about.
Anyway, lets stop the hijacking ;)
